Short Taster Programme
Many students are undecided
about their vocational career path and may wish to broaden their horizons.
The aim of this programme is to enable students to experience different
occupational areas and gives them a general understanding of the world
of work. This will enable them to make an informed choice on their career
aim.
Prior to the course
starting the student will have a one-to-one interview with a designated
member of staff from Prospect Training. The purpose of this interview
is to discuss the students preferences regarding occupational area, travel
to work distances and arrangements, types of workplace preferred, etc.
After this interview a further one will be arranged with an employer.
If this latter interview is successful a start date will be agreed. Students
will be offered up to three possible interviews. However, if all three
are unsuccessful the situation will be reviewed and liaison with the school
will take place.
All students will
complete an open learning project on health and safety in the workplace.
In addition their employer will induct them into their workplace. They
will also be asked to complete a diary of their experiences, which will
underpin any key skills learning and activities.
All students will
be monitored for attendance and progress on a weekly basis. The school
will be provided with the findings of each review. In addition to the
weekly monitoring all schools will be advised of their students’ achievements
either at a meeting or by a formal report at the end of the course.
